The Minutes of the last meeting, February 4, 2010, were approved by the council and are available at the library and on our website at www.WPCCC.info.
Treasurer Report was given by Ken Freese. Reported $1,533.18 as present bank balance. On the motion by Ken Freese, seconded by Ernie Green, all bills be paid. Motion passed.

SPEAKERS:
Detective Jeremy Olsen, Pima County Sheriffs Office, Ajo District was introduced by Ken Freese. Noted the co-operation among the various law enforcement agencies in the Ajo area. The resent drug bust was used as an example. After a report is filed those arrested are turned over to the Justice system. The Justus system determines the punishment. Those arrested are at first held in the local jail then remain or sent to Tucson.
Alex Harper, Special Operation Officer, Border Patrol, was introduced by Ernie Green. Reported on the progress of the towers along the border and the planed 50,000 square feet building to be built replacing the Border Patrol office in Why. It will become the command post for the surveillance towers and border activities.
Joe Messersmith, Assistant Recruiting Officer, US 2010 Census, Tucson Office, was introduced by Arlene Dreste. There are 12 trained census workers presently working the Ajo area. More are needed. Information, application and 30 minute testing are available at the Library followed by 4 days of training. These are temporary hires for approximately 2 to 5 weeks. Workers will deliver the census forms to all areas. There are only 10 questions that must be answered. If the form is not sent in, workers will go to that address to see if it is occupied. It was noted census bags left on door knobs was a sure sign for burglars. Comment noted.
Greg Burton, of Ajo, and President of Western Shrine Campers was called upon by Lil Jones. The campers will visit Ajo on April 11--18 headquartered at Shadow Ridge. Group raises money to transport children to Shrine Hospitals. Robert Denune noted his grandson is being provided a prosthesis.
Norma Gomez, Pima County Attorney’s Office, Services Division, spoke regarding a training session sexual violence and assault. Call 387-3664 to sign up or further information.
Jim Wilcox, I.S.D.A. announced funding has been received for demolishing 5 or 6 blighted structures in Ajo.
Nina Altshul, coordinator, Ajo Community Supported Agriculture, spoke regards successes in the community garden so much so they are looking for additional land and volunteers to expand. Produce is now being sold from the garden.
This concluded the regular meeting of the Council.
Osmahn Kadri, NEPA Project Manager, General Services Administration (GSA) was introduced by Lil Jones to proceed with a question and answer session.
