Minutes of the Meeting
October 4, 2007

The meeting was called to order by Lilian Jones at 7:00pm

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Carol Yokum

Roll Call by Faye Miller, The following were present, Lillian Jones., Faye Miller, Ken Freese, Mary Kralovec, Rick Lehner and Carol Yokum

Minutes of the last meeting waived. The minutes are available at the Salazar Public Library.

Treasurers report Ken Freese balance $1,363.18.

Old Business

Faye Miller reported that she had written a letter to the law enforcement agencies in town complaining about the reckless driving patterns of the local officers.

Mary Kralovec has resigned from board and has accepted a promotion with the National Park Service and will be moving to Brownsville, Texas.

New Business

Jones noted that council elections are coming up. Representatives for even-numbered districts will be elected, this being an odd-numbered year. Up for election are District 2-East Side, represented by Rick Lehner; District 4- Gibson, represented by Carol Yokum, District 6-Why and two at-large districts, 8 and 10. Jones invited anyone interested to fill out a candidate registration form, that can be obtained at the Salazar Library or any Council Member. Applications must be signed before a notary and turned in by November 18.

Jones announced the first speaker, Lt. Clements, noting that the best way to keep good relations going with a community and its sheriff's department is through communications. Clements addressed concerns voiced at the previous meetings and he fielded questions from the floor.

Agent Alex Harper talked about Border Patrol enforcement statistics in the Tucson Sector of operations, which includes the Ajo Station.

Deb Miller, special assistant to Pima County Supervisor Sharon Bronson, was introduced by Jones. Miller offered a sign-up sheet for anyone interested in receiving a monthly email from the county supervisor's office. Addressing the audience she said, "Our role, our job, is to serve you."

Jesse Baxter also a special assistant to Supervisor Bronson, was introduced. She said she and Miller work as a team and people should feel free to contact either one by phone at 420-740-8051 or by email at district3@pima.gov.

Cliff Hunter gave an update on the proposed skateboard park in Ajo. He said the park is on track to be completed by the end of this year. The $500,000 project will include seating for spectators, a fence, lighting and a sidewalk to the facility.

Hunter was given a round of applause for his work with the skateboard kids and his service to the community.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30pm
